About me

I've been working within the UI/UX design space for over 15 years now.I started getting into design and layouts by using tools like Geocities (remember them?!) to create custom pages; that led to me being interested in understanding how websites worked, on a cosmetic level and learning about HTML and CSS hierarchy. I eventually began to create custom MySpace pages for friends which evolved into landing my first professional role in London.
After the 2008 financial crisis and recession my role merged into a mix of development and design as the team was incredibly small (just 3 people!).

A few years later I decided to branch out on my own and formed my own company to tackle contract/freelance roles as a UI/UX designer and consultant. I worked with a number of well-known clients, from Deutsche Bank to Sky as well as the UK government (you can see a majority of the clients scrolling on the home page!). In fact, one project involved me working on a very early draft of the GDS toolkit that is now in use across the entire government ecosystem!

During my time as a contractor I have had the pleasure of gaining a lot of experience, working on a vast number of different projects which has enabled me to appreciate many facets of design and accessibility, where web and mobile projects are concerned, and I have used all of the knowledge and experience in every piece of work since.
Because I have development experience, I can more readily discuss technical concerns or challenges directly with the relevant teams. I am also able to assist in more hands-on work, if required, and my design work always takes into consideration the limitations of browsers, devices, viewports or anything else relevant - a huge benefit in a lot of roles that I have been privileged to have been a part of!
As I have also lead small teams, previously, I also have some managerial experience which has proven to be invaluable in a lot of projects that I've been fortunate to have been a part of.

Not only that, but with my experience in different types of projects and a lifelong interest in all things technology, internet and computers - I'm able to present concepts, ideas, prototypes and challenges in layman's terms and easy to digest information for stakeholders and senior business members.

I am passionate about design, keeping things simple and making things easier for everyone and I genuinely love what I do - if you're keen to talk further about anything design related or project based, or if you'd simply like to hear more of my professional journey (it's very condensed, here!), I'd love to hear from you!

I have a load more to tell but that's probably best saved for a proper chat!
