Some examples of work that I have been involved with over the years and some that I am particularly proud of.

Department for Business and Trade

This project involved working on a project that had languished in development hell for a long time! I was brought on board to assist with the final push from "Alpha" to "Beta-Live".
The site, itself, is the only place that a GB registered business can submit their cosmetic product notifications - essentially a place to upload ingredients for sale on the GB market, post-Brexit.

The work primarily involved a redo of the user journey to include functions such as recovery codes, account management and product draft management.

A huge piece of work that was undertaken was a two-parter:

  • Product ingredient uploads as a way to improve upon the laborious manual input
  • A way to manage a multi-user account to resolve issues or duplication of effort across cosmetic product uploads
As well as this, my underlying task of all work that went on was to ensure accessibility and a user experience that ensured ease of use and flexibility.

I used the Government Design System (GDS) which enabled a smoother transition from non-compliant to compliant. Figma was my tool of choice, where designs were concerned, and we held many user research meetings and interviews to ensure we were getting things done right, the first time around!

The example you see here is a small snapshot of the entire project (there's not enough bandwidth for me to include the entire project in a prototype!) and it shows how a new user to the service should go about registering and then landing on the home page.

Polaris Elements

The aim of my time at Polaris Elements was to "beautify" what the development team had come up with as a means to an end in order to test functionality and layouts for customers.
The platform is aimed at hospitality customers who primarily have a number of restaurants or hotels with similar menu items - and this would assist in them maintaining a wide variety of menus, specialities depending on location and accommodation.

As a starting point I left the Material UI inclusion as it was a good jumping off point for a standardised design system/library - of which I helped to create utilising StoryBook and its Figma integration - which assisted in development handover.

I also looked to include user testing in some of the big UX decisions where looking at the overall platform usability was concerned.

This prototype shows a singular journey of a user who might want to create a promotion for their specific location or multiple locations.

My Sky for Business

The project was an in-house take over of a previously third party managed solution.
Customers were hospitality clients that would have a Sky account to promote and show sporting events - this platform was intended to help customers manage their fixtures, promotions for said fixtures and added benefits that did not exist in the previous iteration of the product.

Working from scratch and joining the project after some important decisions had already been made was challenging, to say the least!

A majority of my work here involved retroactively applying consistency across the project, utilising Figma and ensuring a smooth handover by configuring a StoryBook instance that contained all of the Sky for Business design system content and colour palettes.

This prototype is a quick overview of some key features that were implemented after a successful presentation and is intended to be a very straightfoward/simple overview.
